CommonWealth Poetry Readings and Events hosts touring poets and local writers as featured performers and poetry workshop leaders. We have experienced the work of Hanif Abdurraqib, Emi Mahmoud, Breeze, Wil Gibson, and inaugral Richmond Poet Laureate Roscoe Burnems.

We offer writing and poetry workshops for schools and community members! All workshops can be tailored to the level of proficiency of the group. Workshops include warmup exercises, writing prompts and optional sharing. Our workshops have been offered at Open High School and the University of Virginia.

Come share your poems and songs! Take up to 5 minutes to read what is important to you on the open mic or participate in a poetry slam competition in front of judges (or be a judge!). Listen to unique life experiences and vibrant performances. Majority of shows preceded by workshop.
